Opening Remarks from Regional Chairman
1. Regional Chair Emmerson made the following remarks:
“I would like to begin today’s meeting by acknowledging that York Region extends over lands originally used and occupied by Indigenous Peoples, and on behalf of York Region, I would like to thank First Nations and the Métis for sharing this land.
I would also like to acknowledge the Chippewas of Georgina Island First Nation as our closest First Nation community.”

Regional Chair Emmerson offered his condolences to the Humboldt Broncos Organization on behalf of York Region and thanked everyone for showing their solidarity and sympathy by wearing a jersey in tribute to the victims’ families and Town of Humboldt.
24. New Regional Chair in Durham
Regional Chair Emmerson announced that Gerri Lynn O’Connor, Mayor of Uxbridge, had been appointed to the position of Regional Chair of Durham for the remainder of the 2014-2018 term.
25. Regional Councillor Hogg Celebrates Seventeen Years of Service with the Federation of Canadian Municipalities
Regional Chair Emmerson congratulated Regional Councillor Hogg for serving seventeen years as a Director with the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM).
