Build future leaders through youth leadership programs with help from York Region
Do you want to become a top candidate for a babysitter, lifeguard or summer camp counsellor position?
York Region helps pay for eligible youth and single parents to receive various certifications and training courses through local municipalities, including aquatic leadership programs, counsellor in training and babysitter courses, and more.
Leadership training builds confidence and communication skills and is a great way to secure a part-time job.
Through the Positive Leisure Activities for Youth (PLAY) program, eligible youth and single parents can enroll in the following leadership training opportunities and certifications:

- Counsellor or Leader in Training programs
- High Five certification training
- Volunteer Leadership Program (City of Vaughan)
- Additional programs may be approved in consultation with municipal recreation departments
This support provides youth, aged 11 to 18, from low income families, as well as single parents living with low income, the opportunity to take part in programs offered by municipal recreation departments.
