Oak Ridges Air Management Facility, Notice of Construction
The Regional Municipality of York is building the new Oak Ridges Air Management Facility at 57 King Road near the intersection of Yonge Street and King Road in the City of Richmond Hill. The new Air Management Facility will collect and treat odourous air from the York Durham Sewage System.
The work consists of two parts:
- Air Management Facility construction
- Ductwork construction connecting the Air Management Facility to the York Durham Sewage System; ductwork is located under Yonge Street and will be installed using trenchless technology, referred to as microtunnelling
When: Fall 2022 to Spring 2024
What can you expect?
-
Air Management Facility and ductwork construction will happen in the work areas shown on the project map; work areas will be surrounded by fencing to limit disruptions, dirt and noise
- Though two-way traffic will be maintained, the northbound lane of Yonge Street, near the King Road intersection will be temporarily restricted
- York Region Transit (YRT) bus service along Yonge Street will be maintained; however, the location of bus stop #4721 at Yonge Street and Sunset Beach Road, will be shifted slightly south to a location in front of the Oak Ridges Retirement Living building. Riders can call YRT’s contact centre at 1-866-668-3978 or visit yrt.ca for schedule information
- A temporary sidewalk on the east side of Yonge Street between King Road and Sunset Beach Road will be built; directional signage will be in place to guide pedestrians
- There will be increased construction-related traffic around the work area on Yonge Street and at the new Air Management Facility; staff will be onsite to help with traffic movement, as needed
- Due to the nature of the work, there will be construction-related noise and dust from the equipment and trucks, though every effort to minimize this will be made
- As part of the work, some trees and shrubs will need to be removed; when the work is complete, trees and shrubs native to the area will be planted
- Access to all buildings in the area will be maintained and there is no impact to your water or wastewater services
