Dental Screening

A dental screening is a quick inspection of a child’s mouth by a registered dental hygienist. York Region Public Health offers dental screening for children living in York Region, 17 years of age or under. Dental screening is completed in elementary schools, online, by appointment at one of our York Region Public Health dental clinics, or by request at some EarlyON Child and Family Centres.

A dental screening will help find dental problems so children can receive the right treatment. It can also be the first step to receiving assistance for urgent dental problems through the Healthy Smiles Ontario (HSO) program, or receiving preventive dental care at one of York Region’s Public Health dental clinics.

Eligibility

All children in York Region 17 years old and under are eligible.

Booking a Screening

If your child did not have a dental screening at school, call 1-800-735-6625, extension 74388, and speak with a dental program staff member.

If dental staff find an urgent condition, they legally have to follow up to make sure a child has been treated.

If the cost of treatment is difficult to pay, you may be eligible for the Healthy Smiles Ontario program.

York Region Public Health Dental Clinics are open Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
