Notice of Master Plan Amendment
Aligning the plan with new provincial legislation
The Regional Municipality of York is amending its 2022 Water and Wastewater Master Plan to conform with the Ontario government’s Supporting Growth and Housing in York and Durham Regions Act, 2022. The Act requires York Region and Durham Region to carry out the York Region Sewage Works Project, a long-term wastewater infrastructure project, supporting growth in the Towns of Aurora, Newmarket and East Gwillimbury.
Amendment process
The amendment will:
- Update the servicing strategy and infrastructure plan to reflect approved York Region Sewage Works Projects and other revisions
- Provide supporting information for projects with environmental assessment work
- Refine costs supporting the upcoming Development Charge Bylaw update

The amended plan will be available for public review in early 2025. Visit york.ca/WaterPlan to review and sign up for updates on this work. The York Region Sewage Works Project received approval from the Minister of the Environment, Conservation and Parks in April 2024. Prior consultation completed and additional information for the York Region Sewage Works Project can be found at york.ca/SewageProject.
