York Region supports strong Agriculture and Agri-Food sector
Newmarket – York Regional Council continues to prioritize The Regional Municipality of York’s agriculture and agri-food sector with the release of the 2024 to 2027 Agriculture and Agri-Food Sector Strategy.
“York Regional Council is committed to supporting the Agriculture and Agri-Food Sector as a crucial component of York Region’s economic vitality,” said York Region Chairman and CEO Wayne Emmerson. “York Region is home to the fourth largest food and beverage processing sector in Canada and this new strategy focuses on sustaining and supporting the entire local agri-food sector.”
Following the success of York Region’s first Agriculture and Agri-Food Sector Strategy approved in 2017, the goals driving the 2024 to 2027 Strategy include:
- Strengthening business, entrepreneurship and innovation services by enabling innovation, supporting skills development and attracting workers in the sector
- Bolstering an already resilient and diverse value chain by facilitating continued growth and connection; continuing to build relationships with and fostering support for equity deserving and Indigenous communities; and promoting climate resilience impacting the sector
- Continuing to educate and raise the profile of local agriculture and agri-food sector by expanding outreach and communication
Detailed actions in the 2024 to 2027 Agriculture and Agri-Food Sector Strategy will be supported by important partnerships with York Region’s nine local cities and towns, the Agriculture and Agri-Food Advisory Committee and other key stakeholders.
