Georgina Water Treatment Plant - Notice of Field Studies
York Region is working in your community, conducting field studies along Kennedy Road, in Willow Wharf Park and in Lake Simcoe as part of the Georgina Water Treatment Plant - Mussel Control, Outfall and Site Rehabilitation project. The rehabilitation work will include site improvements at the Georgina Water Treatment Plant and repairs to the damaged outfall pipe and intake mussel control system located in Lake Simcoe. The field studies are required before rehabilitation work can begin.
When: The field study work has begun and the work at each location will take between one to four days to complete. This phase of the project will be completed by the fall 2022.
What Can you Expect?
- The field study work is happening on Kennedy Road, in Willow Wharf Park and in Lake Simcoe and you may see the following activities:
- Installation of location markers for gas, hydro, and cable on the roadway, driveways and lawns
- Drilling of boreholes along the side of Kennedy road and at the water treatment plant and pumping station to test the ground conditions; following the tests, the boreholes and the immediate area will be restored
- Surveying of the streets and park areas
- The in-water work on Lake Simcoe will be done on a barge between 50 meters and 1.5 kilometers from the shore of Willow Beach
- The Willow Wharf will be closed when the in-water work happens; Willow Beach will remain open. Additional information about the beach and wharf will be provided before the in-water work begins
- This work will not affect water or wastewater services in your area
- There may be periodic lane restrictions and traffic delays
