Is Your Child Up To Date With Their Immunizations? View and Update Their Records Online

The Immunization of School Pupils Act (ISPA) requires all children attending school in Ontario to be immunized against certain vaccine-preventable diseases to reduce the risk of outbreaks and keep students safe at school. During the COVID-19 pandemic, York Region Public Health (YRPH) did not enforce the ISPA but will resume enforcement before the end of the 2023/24 school year. Students with immunization information that is not up to date may be suspended from school.

Although most York Region students are immunized, some parents and guardians may not know it is parents’ responsibility to provide immunization records to YRPH and update us every time their child gets vaccinated. Medical offices do not notify YRPH when a child is vaccinated.  

YRPH is sending notices to parents/guardians of all students at Catholic and French and Public schools across York Region reminding them of the requirement to submit their child’s immunization records. These reminder notices will be followed by a targeted letter to the parents/guardians of seven and eight-year-olds at risk of suspension. Lastly, an additional letter that includes a suspension order will only be sent to parents/guardians of those children without an updated immunization record on file with YRPH showing required vaccines. 

YRPH is encouraging parents and guardians to get their children caught up with important routine immunizations and update their immunization records. YRPH continues to offer student catch-up immunization clinics for important routine immunizations by appointment to students in JK through Grade 12 who may be missing vaccines.  

Immunization Connect Ontario (ICON) is the easiest way to update immunization records and track what vaccines are required. All updates made on ICON are automatically sent to YRPH. Options to update a child’s immunization records include:
