York Region recognizes World Mental Health Day
On behalf of York Regional Council and The Regional Municipality of York, I am pleased to recognize Thursday, October 10, 2024, as World Mental Health Day.
World Mental Health Day gives us opportunity to pause and recognize the importance of mental health and the growing impact it has on individuals, families and communities across York Region. Mental health challenges touch many lives, and the ongoing social, economic and health stresses we face have only magnified these concerns.
The theme for 2024, It Is Time to Prioritize Mental Health in the Workplace, highlights an essential conversation for our community. Workplaces play a vital role in shaping the well-being of individuals, and fostering a supportive, mentally healthy environment benefits everyone. By prioritizing mental health in the workplace, we create spaces where people can thrive, feel valued and contribute meaningfully.
As a Region, we are committed to supporting the mental well-being of our residents and our workforce through services, partnerships and advocacy. We will continue to work with health care partners and local businesses to ensure accessible mental health resources are available and that no one feels alone in their journey toward mental wellness.
Let’s take this day as a reminder that mental health is health, and caring for it is essential for a vibrant and resilient community.
