Happy Holidays from The Regional Municipality of York
On behalf of York Regional Council and The Regional Municipality of York, I extend warmest wishes to all York Region residents celebrating this holiday season.
York Region is one of the most diverse communities in Canada, with residents speaking 120 different languages and representing 230 distinct ethnic origins. Our communities are home to residents who practice different faiths where a variety of religious holidays are celebrated.
In December alone, the Jewish community celebrates the Festival of Lights, also known as Hanukkah, Buddhists observed Bodhi Day, Christians celebrate Christmas, many residents of African descent celebrate Kwanzaa, Pagans and Wiccans observe Yule and the Winter Solstice, Latin Americans recognize Las Posadas and Zoroastrians mark the death of the prophet Zarathushtra. Together, these various celebrations demonstrate how diverse and ethnically rich our communities truly are.
Regardless of faith or religious observance, this special time of year offers an opportunity to gather with loved ones and family to both celebrate and learn more about the faiths and transitions of those we share our communities with.
It also offers an opportunity to reflect on the past year and acknowledge the generosity, kindness and hope we have all experienced as we continue to support the health and safety of our families, friends, neighbours and communities.
On behalf of York Regional Council and more than 1.2 million residents who call York Region home, I extend our best wishes for a warm and safe holiday season.
