Description:
- York Region is replacing a culvert
- Traces of asbestos are present in the current asphalt at the culvert site on Woodbine Avenue
- Asbestos was used in asphalt mixes throughout the 1970s and early 1980s to improve performance
- The risk of exposure to asbestos for workers and bystanders is low
- As a precaution, York Region’s contractor will take protective measures during removal of existing asphalt containing traces of asbestos
- Culverts allow water and wildlife to pass freely under the road
- A 10-day road closure is required to facilitate the culvert replacement
Impacts to travellers:
- Work will occur Monday to Sunday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Lane closures will be required to complete this work
- Road closure:
- Woodbine Avenue from St. John’s Sideroad to Vivian Road will be closed from 7 p.m. on Friday July 19, 2024 to 7 p.m. on Monday, July 29, 2024 to replace the culvert
- Traffic will not be able to travel through the work zone during the road closure
- Local traffic is permitted; however, those with properties to the north of the culvert can only access Woodbine Avenue from Vivian Road and those to the south, only from St. John’s Sideroad
- Access to homes and businesses will be maintained
As with all construction projects, work may be rescheduled due to weather. York Region will provide advance notice where possible.
