On Saturday, May 6, 2023, York Region and York Regional Council will join communities across Canada and around the world to mark the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III and Her Majesty The Queen Consort.
York Region will mark this significant moment in history to acknowledge and celebrate the close ties between His Majesty and Canada, as well as the role the Canadian Crown plays in our system of governance and our sense of identity.
On Coronation Day, we will think of our shared values of peace, unity and freedom and we will celebrate the priorities we share with Their Majesties, which include service, diversity, the environment and sustainability.
For more than 50 years, His Majesty King Charles III has had a close connection to our country and a special relationship with Canadians. His Coronation is a historic event marking the beginning of his reign as King of Canada.
Upon the Coronation, Regional Council solemnly affirms that we will be faithful and bear true allegiance to His Majesty King Charles the III, his heirs and successors according to law.
In observance of Coronation Day, York Region will join the United Kingdom and Commonwealth countries in illuminating the clock tower emerald green at the York Region Administrative Centre in The Town of Newmarket on Saturday, May 6 and Sunday, May 7, 2023.
