York Region celebrates two local athletes competing in the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games

On behalf of York Regional Council and The Regional Municipality of York, it is an honour to extend congratulations and well-wishes to the 126 Canadian athletes, including two local athletes, competing in the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. Your dedication, determination and resilience are truly inspiring, and you embody the spirit of excellence that the Paralympic Games celebrate.

The Paralympics are more than just a display of athletic prowess; they are a powerful platform for promoting strong, inclusive communities. By highlighting the extraordinary abilities and achievements of athletes with disabilities, the Games challenge stereotypes and inspire us all to strive for greater inclusivity within our own communities.

York Region is committed to welcoming and inclusive communities where diversity is celebrated and where everyone can develop to their full potential. Similarly, the Paralympics allow for the inclusive play of sport, which plays a significant role in fostering a welcoming environment that raises awareness for unity around the world.

To our York Region Paralympians, Zachary Gringas from the City of Markham competing in the Para Athletics 400m and Katie Pegg from the City of Markham competing in Para Athletics Shot Put, you set a remarkable example and inspire us all. We also celebrate all Team Canada coaches, friends, loved ones and the communities who have supported the Olympic journey of our Paralympians.
