York Region recognizes Emergency Preparedness Week
On behalf of York Regional Council and The Regional Municipality of York, it is my pleasure to recognize May 7 to May 13, 2023, as Emergency Preparedness Week.
This annual event is an opportunity to increase awareness and remind residents what we can do to be better prepared to protect ourselves and our families during emergencies, including natural disasters, power outages and severe storms.
This year’s theme, Get Prepared, is a reminder we have a shared responsibility to ensure our families readiness and to support our communities in times of crisis. Even as we continue with the post-pandemic recovery of our communities, we must continue to prepare for unforeseen circumstances and ensure we are able to respond to any emergency situation.
To help residents learn more about the top hazards and risks in York Region, an updated Emergency Preparedness Guide has been developed and provides valuable information on how to stay safe in emergency situations and prepare in advance.
We have seen first-hand the value and importance of emergency preparedness over the past three years. Today, as we continue to move beyond the COVID-19 pandemic, it is important we all take steps to Get Prepared and ensure the safety of ourselves, our families and our communities.
On behalf of Regional Council, I extend my thanks and appreciation to our residents, community leaders, first responders and all levels of government for your continued support in building a ready and resilient York Region.
