York Region opens new paramedic response station in the City of Markham
Newmarket – The Regional Municipality of York celebrated the opening of a new Paramedic Response Station #27 in the City of Markham.
“York Region's paramedics provide the highest quality of care to patients in York Region, and this new station will support York Region Paramedic Services in continuing to deliver critical and life-saving services,” said York Region Chairman and CEO Wayne Emmerson. “With more than 1.2 million residents calling York Region home, it is important we plan and prepare for the essential care and services required to support our Region’s growing communities.”
Located at 180 Cachet Woods Court in the City of Markham, this new station is LEED silver certified and can accommodate up to six ambulances, and will have paramedics operating 24 hours per day, seven days a week.
New stations, like this one, are strategically built within areas experiencing a growth in population and help York Region Paramedic Services continue to meet the needs of residents.
“York Region is expected to add more than 600,000 new residents by 2041. With the rapidly growing and aging population, like many other services and infrastructure projects, the need for paramedic services is also expected to increase,” said City of Vaughan Regional Councillor Gino Rosati, Chair of Community and Health Services. “As part of the York Region Paramedic Services Master Plan (2021-2031), planning for this growth helps balance resources appropriately and maintain access to paramedic services across all nine York Region cities and town.”
There are currently 27 paramedic response stations located across York Region. Four additional stations are planned to be built over the next three years and two existing stations will receive upgrades to expand service capacity.
York Region’s team of skilled paramedics provide emergency and non-emergency medical response to York Region residents 24 hours a day, seven days a week. For more information on York Region Paramedic Services, visit york.ca/paramedics or follow @YorkParamedics on Twitter.
