York Region celebrates National Day of Service and commemorates 9/11
On the anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks, York Regional Council and The Regional Municipality of York honours the nearly 3,000 innocent lives lost and offers condolences to all who lost loved ones in this horrific act of violence.
On this day in 2001, the world witnessed a tragedy that reshaped history and left an indelible mark on our collective consciousness. The attacks claimed thousands of lives and shattered thousands of families. In response to this unspeakable act of terror, the National Day of Service and Remembrance was established to honour the victims, survivors and heroes of 9/11.
It serves as a reminder of the resilience of the human spirit and the power of unity in the face of adversity. This day not only commemorates the lives lost but also inspires us to come together to serve our communities, uphold our shared values and strive for a brighter, more compassionate future.
Today, and all year long, I encourage York Region residents to honour the lives lost in 9/11 and the selfless service of others by engaging in charitable activities and dedicating ourselves to community service.
On behalf of Regional Council and more than 1.25 million people who call our communities home, we remember the lives lost and continue to give thanks to those whose service contributes to a strong, caring, safe York Region.
