Cheers to New Year’s and ride free on YRT
Newmarket – York Region Transit (YRT) is offering free transit to travellers on New Year’s Eve after 7 p.m. and is extending late-night service to get you to and from your celebrations safely.
YRT service changes will also take effect on Sunday, December 22, 2024, and Sunday, January 5, 2025. Schedule and route adjustments will be made on select routes to match customer demand.
YRT service changes effective Sunday, December 22, 2024
- High School Specials: suspending routes during the two-week holiday closure
- Holiday service to Vaughan Mills and Canada’s Wonderland: adding more service via Routes 320 – Jane Express and 360 – Vaughan Mills/Wonderland
YRT service changes effective Sunday, January 5, 2025
- High School Specials: reinstating routes suspended during two-week holiday closure
- Route 7 – Martin Grove: providing weekend/holiday service south of Steeles Avenue to Humber Polytechnic and discontinuing service along Steeles Avenue between Martin Grove Road and Islington Avenue; travellers may use TTC Route 60 – Steeles West or 960 – Steeles West Express as alternates
- Route 85 – Rutherford: entering and exiting Vaughan Mills Terminal via Jane Street to reduce delays
- Route 411 – Markham District School Special via Box Grove: restructuring to better serve the community
- On-Request Markham and On-Request Woodbridge: revising to connect On-Request services to fixed YRT routes or to provide direct service if fixed routes are not available, improving overall service and traveller experience
- On-Request North, Holland Landing–Mount Albert and Newmarket-Aurora-Oak Ridges: combining into one service called On-Request North-Central; travellers can book their On-Request trips through the YRT On-Request App

Holiday service hours effective December 22, 2024, to January 5, 2025
YRT and Mobility On-Request Paratransit contact centres will observe holiday service hours. Contact centres are closed Wednesday, December 25, 2024, and Wednesday, January 1, 2025. Hours per day may vary and can be found at Holiday service schedules and Contact Centre hours
