Recreational Subsidies are available to eligible families for recreation programs this fall
There are plenty of ways to keep children active (and learning!) this fall and York Region is here to help! Positive Leisure Activities for Youth (PLAY) program recreational subsidies are available for eligible parents and families, living with low income, to help cover the cost of recreational activities. Applicants must receive at least one of the following income supports:
- A rent subsidy (a York Region Rent-Geared-to-Income or Canada-Ontario Housing Benefit (COHB))
- Ontario Works, Ontario Disability Support Program or Assistance for Children with Severe Disabilities
- Child Care Fee Subsidy with an annual income of $43,000 or less
- Subsidies can be used towards a variety of municipal recreation programs, including skating, baking, sports, art classes and more! Please check with your local municipality for a full list of programs and activities available during this season.
Registration for the new PLAY period is now open.
The amount of per-season funding for fall 2024 through to winter 2025 is $250.
This is a new PLAY application period and all families must apply to be determined eligible for the 2024 period. If you received funding in 2023 or earlier, you will need to submit a new application for the 2024 period. Once you are approved, please check with your local municipality for the availability of fall programs and registration dates.
