November is CPR Month
November is CPR Month, which means it’s the perfect time to learn how to save a life using Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
Nearly 40,000 Canadians suffer a cardiac arrest each year. It can happen to anyone, anywhere, at any time. In fact, most cardiac arrests happen outside the hospital in the presence of family and friends. If people know how to perform CPR and use an AED, they can significantly improve the person’s chances of survival. Combined with CPR, AEDs can increase the likelihood of an individual’s survival by 75%!
An AED is a small medical device that can restart a heart after a cardiac arrest. AEDs are easy to use and tell you exactly what do, so anyone can use them in an emergency. They are located throughout our community, often found in schools, emergency shelters, sports and recreational facilities, government offices and private businesses.
