York Region $3.5 billion operating budget unanimously approved for 2025
Newmarket – York Regional Council is committing to $3.5 billion in operating expenditures in 2025. Aligned to deliver on the Strategic Plan, this day-to-day budget is divided into three main parts: 42% for program costs, 30% for salaries and benefits and the remaining to support the Region’s Fiscal Strategy.
Organized under the three themes guiding York Region’s 2025 Budget, highlights from the operating budget include:
Investing in Safer Communities
- Improving community safety by supporting an additional 304 sworn officers and civilian staff for York Regional Police over the next two years
- Adding 74 new paramedics and support staff to ensure the Region continues to meet response time targets over the next two years
- Continuing implementation of 2024-2027 York Region Plan to Support Seniors to respond to current and emerging needs
Enabling Growth in our Communities
- Delivering 125 billion litres of clean, safe drinking water to protect public health
- Maintaining a safe and efficient road network and transit system
- Diverting more than 90% of managed waste from landfill
Keeping People, Goods and Information Moving
- Continuing ridership throughout the transit system with 23.4 million trips expected in 2025
- Maintaining more than 4,400 lane kilometres of Regional roads
