Ontario Provincial Audit and Accountability Fund
On May 21, 2019, the Ontario government announced the creation of the Audit and Accountability Fund. The $7.35-million fund was established for large urban municipalities and district school boards interested in conducting third party reviews of service delivery and administrative expenditures with the goal of finding efficiencies while protecting important front-line services.
York Region is proud of our strong culture of continuous improvement. We deliver high quality programs and services to our residents, while continually striving to provide the best value. As part of our commitment to innovation and efficiency, York Regional Council has directed staff to apply to the province for the review of service delivery, administrative processes and modernization opportunities through the Audit and Accountability Fund.
Through the provincial program, municipalities are required to use the approved funding to hire independent third-party consultants to review municipal services delivery expenditures in order to identify efficiencies. Following the review, a final report must be submitted to the province outlining their third-party review analysis, findings and actional recommendations. As part of the funding agreement, York Region is also required to publicly post the report.
