16th Avenue Sewer System Rehabilitation - Spring / Summer 2023 Update
Rehabilitation work on the York Durham Sewage System on 16th Avenue in the City of Markham is moving forward.
The temporary sewage bypass pipe that runs along 16th Avenue from Mingay Avenue to Williamson Road is now in service.
Having the bypass in place means rehabilitation work can proceed without impacting your water or wastewater services.

Looking ahead
In the months ahead, the crew will be:
- Waterproofing the trunk sewer and maintenance holes
- Applying new geopolymer liner in the sewer
- Removing temporary sewage bypass pipes and work compounds
- Restoring work areas
The project is on track to be finished by summer 2024.
Thank you for your patience while we complete this vital work. As with all construction projects, some work may be rescheduled due to weather or other conditions.
