Keeping our kids healthy and protected this school year!

Back-to-school is a very exciting time! To prepare your child for a healthy return to school, ensure their vaccinations are up-to-date.

The Immunization of School Pupils Act (ISPA) requires all children attending school in Ontario to be immunized against nine vaccine-preventable diseases, including Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis, Polio, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (chickenpox) and Meningococcal disease to reduce the risk of outbreaks and keep students safe and healthy in school.

Some vaccine-preventable diseases re-emerged this past season, such as Measles and Pertussis (whooping cough). Check your child’s immunization records (yellow card) to ensure they have received the recommended vaccine doses outlined in Ontario's Immunization Schedule.

Children in Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12 may obtain immunizations from a health care professional, medical walk-in clinic, or a York Region Public Health immunization clinic (by appointment only).

Tell us each time your child is vaccinated

Although most York Region students are immunized, some parents and guardians are unaware they are responsible for providing immunization records to York Region Public Health and updating us every time their child gets vaccinated. Doctors and health care professionals do not notify Public Health when a child is vaccinated.

Immunization Connect Ontario (ICON) is the easiest way for most parents and guardians to update their child’s immunization records and track required vaccines.  Other options to update a child’s immunization records include:
