International Wave of Light
October 15, 2022, is recognized as Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day in Ontario.
The day is observed with remembrance ceremonies, candle lighting vigils and concludes with an International Wave of Light. The Wave of Light initiative invites participants from around the world to light a candle at 7 p.m. for one hour. Bridges, towers and landmarks are also illuminated in remembrance of those lost too soon and to raise awareness about pregnancy and infant loss. The result is a continues chain of light spanning the globe which gives parents, families and friends time to reflect and remember the loss of their babies.
This year, York Region will participate in the International Wave of Light by illuminating the clock tower at the Administrative Centre, located at 17250 Yonge Street in the Town of Newmarket, in pink and blue.
