York Small Business Enterprise Centre Celebrates the 2023 Summer Company Program
The York Small Business Enterprise Centre (YSBEC) celebrates the outstanding success of its 2023 Summer Company program. This year’s program of young entrepreneurs showcased innovation, resilience, and entrepreneurial spirit.
The Summer Company program, in partnership with the Government of Ontario, empowers students aged 15 to 29 by providing them with the resources, training and mentorship to help launch and manage their own summer businesses.
Student businesses in 2023 included basketball and swimming lessons, window washing services and unique initiatives that serve both the local and global community. Some notable student ventures include:
- Loots of Love by Agrin Hamzehazar, offering curated loot bags and DIY kits
- Smiles Across Borders by Michael Wang, a not-for-profit pen pal initiative fostering connections between Canadian and Kenyan high school students
- Grime Stoppers by Noah Savage, a dedicated pressure washing enterprise
The success stories don’t end here. Students have reaped the benefits of the program, using the knowledge and skills to further their academic pursuits or even transform their summer businesses into full-fledged enterprises.
The Summer Company program continues to be an instrumental platform, providing young aspiring entrepreneurs with a grant of up to $3,000, hands-on training, continuous mentorship, and the experience of a lifetime.
