York Region extends condolences on passing of The Right Honourable Brian Mulroney
On behalf of York Regional Council and The Regional Municipality of York, I share deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of The Right Honourable Brian Mulroney, Canada’s 18th Prime Minister.
Former Prime Minister Mulroney was renowned for his ability to forge relationships with those from all walks of life, from world leaders to those living in small communities. He took Canada by storm in 1984, with the largest margin of political victory in Canada, a feat that has yet to be repeated.
He introduced major economic reforms, undertook constitutional challenges and established the first free trade agreement between Canada and the United States.
After leaving politics, Mr. Mulroney returned to the world of business and law. He continued advocating for Canada and for Canadians, earning recognition as a statesman who tirelessly promoted our country’s active participation on the global stage. He often emphasized the importance of Canada's role in addressing international issues and promoted its interests and values worldwide.
As proud as he was of his country, he was prouder still of his role as husband, father and grandfather. Our thoughts are with his family, including his wife, Mila, his children, Caroline, Ben, Mark and Nicolas, his grandchildren and all who had the privilege of having him in their lives.
York Region has lowered flags at Regional facilities in tribute to The Right Honourable Brian Mulroney.
