York Region approves $1.26 billion capital budget for 2025
Newmarket – York Regional Council unanimously approved $1.26 billion in capital spending for 2025. Aligned to deliver on the Strategic Plan, this capital spending is part of a record-level $12.2 billion 10-year capital plan to fund growth-related and priority infrastructure projects and maintain assets in a state of good repair.
Organized under the three themes guiding York Region’s 2025 Budget, capital highlights over the next 10-years include:
Investing in Safer Communities
- Providing York Regional Police additional fleet and equipment to improve community safety
- Building six paramedic response stations
- Building 287 new emergency and transitional housing beds
Enabling Growth in our Communities
Investing over $3 billion in housing-enabling water and wastewater infrastructure to provide capacity to more than 70,000 housing units, bringing the total build-ready capacity to 150,000 units
- Adding 101 new lane kilometres of roads and improving 150 intersections
- Building 400 new community housing units in two Housing York Inc. projects
Keeping People, Goods and Information Moving
- Investing in 77 additional kilometres of active transportation
- Continuing advancing the Yonge North Subway Extension
- Building an additional 401 kilometres of fibre network, bringing the total to more than 1,600 kilometres, facilitating high-speed internet access in rural and underserved areas
- Maintaining 4,406 lane kilometres of urban and rural roads
