The York Region Accessibility Advisory Committee meeting was called to order at 4:01 p.m. on November 22, 2017.

4. 2018 Accessibility Advisory Committee Meeting Schedule
Committee received the 2018 Accessibility Advisory Committee meeting schedule.
5. Accessibility Update and Review of Accessibility Policies
Committee received the communication from Christopher Raynor, Regional Clerk, dated October 20, 2017 regarding ‘Accessibility Update and Review of Accessibility Policies’.
Other Business
6. Update on Accessibility Activities
Committee received a verbal update from Lois Davies, Manager, Social Policy and Accessibility, Strategies and Partnerships Branch, Community and Health Services, as follows:
1. Committee and staff congratulated Sharon Doyle, Manager, Mobility Plus, York Region Transit, Transportation Services who was presented with the Individual Leadership Award for Distinguished Service from the Canadian Urban Transit Association.
2. Construction of the York Region Transit Travel Training Centre, the first of its kind in Canada, is now complete. It is an indoor, life sized training centre for people of all ages and abilities who need additional skills to independently use York Region Transit, and will be open to the community in the Fall of 2018.
3. Committee members received copies of three children’s books which celebrate and promote inclusion, diversity and accessibility, released by the Government of Ontario and the Canadian Council on Rehabilitation and Work, entitled “Benjamin-Bob Can Do the Job”, “Felicia McCan” and “I’m Smart in My Own Way”.
4. Committee members also received a booklet entitled “What Ontario’s Accessibility Laws Mean to You - A Guide for People with Disabilities, Their Family and Friends”, which explains the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act.
5. The current term of the York Region Accessibility Advisory Committee concludes with the term of Regional Council in 2018. Members may sit on the committee for two consecutive terms of Council, which means that five members will be retiring. In the new year, staff will present recruitment plans to Committee for review and feedback, including promotion plans, the application and the interview process.
7. Appointment to the York Region Planning Advisory Committee
Committee was advised that Steve Foglia, Vice Chair of the York Region Accessibility Advisory Committee was appointed to the York Region Planning Advisory Committee by Regional Council at its meeting on November 16, 2017.
8. Next Meeting
The next meeting of the York Region Accessibility Advisory Committee is scheduled for February 21, 2018 at 4 p.m.
