1. Regional Chair Emmerson made the following remarks:
“I would like to begin today’s meeting by acknowledging that York Region extends over lands originally used and occupied by Indigenous Peoples, and on behalf of York Region, I would like to thank First Nations and the Métis for sharing this land.
I would also like to acknowledge the Chippewas of Georgina Island First Nation as our closest First Nation community.”

35. Passing of Former Regional Councillor and City of Markham Deputy Mayor Ronald Dancey
The Committee honoured the life and impact of Ronald Dancey, former Regional Councillor and City of Markham Deputy Mayor who passed away on August 31, 2018.
Regional Chair Emmerson praised Mr. Dancey’s hard work ethic and dedication to serving the York Region community. Following a term as a Markham Ward Councillor, he served two terms on York Regional Council over five years between 1980 and 1985. As a member of Council, he served on both the Planning Committee and the York Central Hospital Board.
On behalf of Council, Regional Chair Emmerson offered sincere condolences and sympathies to Mr. Dancey’s family, friends and colleagues.
Members of Council and all those present in the Council Chamber stood in a moment of silence in honour of Mr. Dancey.
