Adult Day Programs
Our Adult Day Programs provide meaningful and stimulating daily activities and exercises to meet the social, physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual needs of our clients in a secure environment. They give participants the opportunity to socialize and offer caregivers support and respite. Trained, professional staff work closely with our clients and their caregivers to ensure the goals of the goals are met.
About our programs
Eligibility requirements
York Region’s Adult Day Programs are for individuals who are 18 years or older and:
- Are referred by Ontario Health atHome
- Have a valid Ontario health card
- Live in a community setting
- Can adhere to our procedures for medication reminders
- Would benefit from socially interacting with others
Individuals are not eligible if they require the following:
- Two-person transfers
- Extensive assistance with personal care (e.g., changing incontinence products, personal cleansing during toileting, consistent one-on-one support requirements, assistance with eating etc.)
- Management of severe disinhibited behaviours or disruptive agitation
- Management of any behaviours that are threatening to other clients or staff, or place the client or any other person at risk
Please note: The use of restraints and isolation are not allowed within the Adult Day Programs

Referrals can be made for adults over the age of 18 who are frail, socially isolated, or diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, dementia, an acquired brain injury or Aphasia, or other age-related illnesses and could benefit from some support and supervision.
Sample Daily Activity Calendar
A monthly calendar that highlights special events and theme days throughout the year is available at all of our locations.
Examples activities:
- Morning discussion and card games
- Music: love song sing-along
- History of baseball
- Exercise group
- Arts and crafts
- Bocce ball
- Entertainment: musical performance
- Horticultural therapy: herb planting
Important Information
- A nutritious lunch and snacks are served daily
- Families are encouraged to drop off and pick up their loved ones or arrange transportation with York Region Transit Mobility On-Request. Our staff can provide you with the Mobility On-Request application or you can download it at yrt.ca
- Each program has a daily fee for service. Subsidies are available for qualified participants upon intake to the program
- We continue to implement infection prevention and control measures in accordance with guidelines from the Ministry of Health and York Region Public Health
Medication reminders
Families must advise program staff of any medications to be taken during program hours. Staff will safely store medications and remind clients to take their medications by themselves as part of our safe medication procedures.
About our virtual programs
York Region’s Adult Day Programs offer virtual programming to clients who are on the waitlist.
The virtual program gives participants the opportunity to socialize and engage with other clients and offers caregivers support and respite in a new way.
The virtual program is available from Monday to Friday on Zoom.

For adults 18 years and older living with aphasia or related communication disorders
ABI Program
Tuesday and Friday
9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
For adults 18 years and older, living with the effects of an acquired brain injury.
The Club
Monday to Thursday
7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
For adults over the age of 18 who live with enhanced cognitive impairments and physical disabilities, socially isolated, or diagnosed with another age-related illnesses and could benefit from some support and supervision.
