Erin Mahoney is Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of The Regional Municipality of York.
Prior to her appointment as CAO in September 2023, Erin previously served as York Region’s Commissioner of Public Works and Commissioner of Environmental Services, where she made significant contributions to the Region’s success.
Erin is a highly motivated executive with a proven track record of leadership, with extensive background in Regional government and the private sector and a future-focused approach to driving results. Her interest in innovation fuels her pursuit of excellence as a municipal leader and positions her to lead York Region in a new era of growth and innovation.
Erin’s experience spans more than 35 years in operations and executive management. She is well versed in developing multi-year strategic plans, leading transformational change, delivering complex business plans and budgets, driving delivery of large-scale capital infrastructure annually, applying effective risk management and advancing innovative projects with other levels of government. Her strong financial acumen, advanced knowledge of customer strategies and sustaining partnerships are vital to delivering results.
Erin holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) from Memorial University of Newfoundland and a Master of Engineering from the University of Western Ontario. She is a Board member of Sustainable Development Technology Canada, an arm’s-length foundation created by the Government of Canada to fund new clean technologies. She is past Chair of the Regional Public Works Commissioners of Ontario, has served on the board of WaterTAP, a Canadian water technology accelerator, and the 2021 Douglas Wright Engineer-in-Residence at the University of Waterloo.
Her ability to collaborate, lead with empathy and confidently make pivotal decisions aligns perfectly with York Region’s vision of strong, caring, safe communities and positions her to shape a future for York Region that will benefit our communities for generations to come.
Reporting to the York Region Chairman and CEO and York Regional Council, the CAO oversees more than 5,000 staff delivering comprehensive services to York Region’s more than 1.2 million residents and 55,600 businesses.
