Langstaff Road
The EA Study will look at improvements to Langstaff Road, including a connection across the CN MacMillan Yard and interchange improvements at Highway 400 in the City of Vaughan.
Project Background
Within the study area, the Regional road network will be very congested without additional east-west capacity and there are limited existing facilities for active transportation.
Langstaff Road is proposed to be widened to six lanes between Weston Road and Dufferin Street, including a connection across the CN MacMillan Yard. This project is intended to:
- Increase network accessibility and flexibility
- Reduce delays for residents and businesses
- Relieve and diffuse demands on arterial roads
- Provide connections between communities and local amenities (e.g. schools, local retail, etc.)
- Support efficient transit uses
- Support pedestrian and cyclist uses
- Increase efficiency of the transportation network
Environmental Study Report
The Regional Municipality of York has completed a Schedule ‘C’ Municipal Class Environmental Assessment Study for the proposed improvements to Langstaff Road from Weston Road to Highway 7. The study reviewed the growth in the area and identified improvements needed to accommodate existing and future transportation needs of this area as part of the Regional road network.
The study recommends improvements including widening Langstaff Road to six lanes between Weston Road and Dufferin Street, providing sidewalks and cycle tracks and a proposed future connection across the CN MacMillan Rail Yard and a proposed separation of the road and rails at the Metrolinx GO Barrie Line. Improvements associated with the Highway 400/Langstaff Road interchange are subject to a future highway corridor study
York Region has prepared an Environmental Study Report (ESR) documenting the study process, consultation efforts and recommended plan. This Notice of Completion places the ESR on the public record for a 30-day review period, beginning January 13, 2022.
